Rishabh Pant demolished Mumbai Indians in their opening match against Delhi Capitals as he smoked 78* in 24 balls with 7 fours and 7 sixes. His fifty came in 18 balls. Thanks to him, Dc put on 213/6 on board. Shikhar Dhawan and Colin Ingram made scores in 40s and added 83 runs together forming a platform for Pant to launch from.
While defending the massive total, DC bowlers removed Mumbai’s top three for just 45 runs inside 6 overs. Although Yuvraj Singh did his best to keep the home team in the hunt with a brilliant knock of 35-ball 53, it was never going to be enough with the constantly increasing required run-rate. Yuvi eventually perished in the penultimate over off Rabada’s bowling while MI got bundled out for 176 in 19.2 overs.
The highlight of Rishabh’s scintillating innings was his version of MS Dhoni’s helicopter shot, as he used his wrists more while executing the shot. He hit the shot off the formidable Indian and MI pacer Jasprit Bumrah. The ball was in his arc and the southpaw used his malleable wrists to whip it over deep square leg for a maximum.
